Wisdom of Uncertainty
Wisdom of Uncertainty is a work based on the vulnerable and ever-changing dynamics at the basis of our living. The state of alert for the ecosystem, the never ending economic crisis and the loss of community values alongside the physics’s concept of complex system and entropy are the primary inspiration of this body of work.
The myth of neoliberalism free market, that characterised the culture of the last century, gave birth to the idea of self-made man which has produced nothing else but loneliness, a search for acceptance and uncertainty. From such uncertainty rose the awareness that reality it’s not a simple succession of unrelated persons, events or elements, but rather, the fabric of our existence is made of a profound interdependence between elements ruled by entropy and gravity, a chaotic complex system where each elements reach its definition and signifying through its relationships.
The visual metaphor is created with liquid matter, a peculiar state useful to show an ever- changing, interdependent and uncertain dynamic. Tiny drops of liquid compound based on food colouring were placed with a surgical syringe on a glass surface covered by a layer of few millimetres of water. The entropy of the tiny coloured drops began directly on the wet glass.
The dynamic generated from the expansion of the drops and the attraction they exert on each other lead to the formation of the shape portrayed. It is thanks to the interdependent relationship of each single part that these complex forms can exist. Shapes and colours, thanks to the photographic tool, allude to an otherwise invisible and intangible ancestral feeling.
The observation of this interaction alludes to the dynamics of the human and non-human community, the relationship between financial and productive sectors and the development of the ecosystem to show that we are not the sum of autonomous entities, but rather participants in a complex, vulnerable, always changing and interdependent movement.
